Porcelain to Meissen is both the title of Stephanie Imbeau’s 2024 residency exhibition at Kunstverein Meißen and the name of a central body of work created during that time: four large-format "sewn porcelain" panels composed of hundreds of hand-cut tiles, bound together with over 100 meters of braided polyester rope. These works, made with porcelain tiles transported from Berlin to Meissen, merge ceramic and textile techniques to explore themes of connection, labor, and the tension between fragility and strength. Their creation was a communal process, developed through open workshops with local participants where making and conversation were interwoven.
The images featured here document the final exhibition installation, which brings Porcelain to Meissen into dialogue with a broader constellation of works. Included are Refoldings (printed digital collages) and Folds (drawings), both of which emerged from Imbeau’s research at the Meissen Porcelain Foundation during the residency.
Also featured in the exhibition are Sketches (Intimacies) and Comfort Objects—works not produced during the residency period but selected for their thematic resonance.
Please see individual work categories for more details.
More information on the residency project will be available soon.
